Cheap Bed and Breakfast in Delaware: The New Devon Inn, Lewes

This hotel, with its striped awnings and lobby-level stores, opened in 1989 in the heart of Lewes’s historic district. It has fine views of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church and historic cemetery. Built in 1926, it received a complete makeover beginningin 1986 at the hands of its owners, DaleJenkins and Bernard Nash. Little remains of its past except the lustrous heart-of-pine floors.
The guest rooms are furnished with antiques and beds swaddled in designer linens. They are relatively small but warmly appointed, immaculately clean, and quite comfortable. The corner rooms (108, for example) are the ones most requested. Room 101, with a double bed, receives buckets of early morning sun-light. There is turndown service, candy and cordials in the rooms, and morning coffee served in delicate antique cups. Silver service, crystal, and china make the Continental breakfast special.
