Funky chic is perhaps the best way to describe Fells Point, a historic water-front section of Baltimore where hulking warehouses cast long shadows on the narrow streets, tugs dock at the old City Pier, and the bars don’t close until late. At the center of this Maryland Macao lies the Admiral Fell Inn, an assemblage of eight buildings constructed between the late 1770s and the 1920s, that once housed avinegar-bottling plant. Rest assured that the place has since been fumigated; in fact, it’s been handsomely renovated and ingeniously converted into an 80-room inn with a restaurant and pub in the cellar. The rooms, which vary in shape, are decorated with Federal-style reproductions and offer views of the erratic rooftops of Fells Point. Three suites and eight rooms have whirl-pool baths, and 15 rooms have two double beds. Two rooms have balconies with harbor views. |
