Cheap Bed and Breakfast in Maryland: The Bishop's House, Easton

This handsome Victorian home (circa 1880)was built for former Maryland Governor Philip Frances Thomas and his wife. After the governor’s death in 1892, the house was sold to the Episcopal Diocese and served as the Bishop’s home, hence the name. Conveniently located near the heart of historic Easton, the Bishop’s House features large first-floor rooms with a 14-foot ceiling and large plaster medallions. The first floor is centrally air-conditioned and offers facilities for social functions and business meet-ings. Second-floor guest rooms have 12-foot ceilings and are decorated in romantic 19th-century oak, walnut, and mahogany; three guest rooms have work-ing fireplaces and two have whirlpool baths. For socializing or for people-watch-ing there’s a wonderful wraparound front porch.
Golf packages, cycling tours, and sight-seeing excursions are available to guests, and since the present owners are members of Biking-Inn-to-Inn on the Eastern Shore, Inc., they can assist with arrangements for staying at other member properties. Owner Diane Laird-Ippolito is proud of the inn’s hot sumptuous breakfasts and knows Easton’s restaurants well. She carefully matches her guests with what will be an appropriate dining experience.
