In 1991 RNs Joan and Michael Fitzsimmons took an old Victorian summer house, gave it some much needed nursing, and turned it into a new Victorian B&B. Built circa 1885 for one of the daughters of the Wilson family, “Rosalind Cottage” was named after a Shake-spearean heroine, as were three other nearby Wilson homes.
Some original furnishings remain, in-eluding chestnut mantels on the fire-places in the dining room and small entryway parlor, but Joan and Michael have added their own. The Veranda Room has a bed with tented oak head-board and a porch overlooking a small English garden; Portia’s Suite (another Shakespearean lady) has an iron bed, pull-out love seat, and rooftop view; and Adrien’s room, named for the Fitzsimmons’ teenage daughter, is dressed in “her colors”—lavender and green—and graced with a delicate antique crocheted coverlet with pansies and a vase of pea-cock feathers.
Open weekends in the shoulder seasons but allweek in summer, the inn is a block from the beach and across from Bicentennial Park, site of summer concerts on Wednesday evenings and art shows and other events on alternate Saturdays.
