Cheap Bed and Breakfast in New Jersey: Bayberry Barque, Beach Haven

This porch-wrapped house was built in 1888 for a member of the Philadelphia Orchestra. Barbara and Tom De Santo (she’s a former nursery school teacher, he’s an attorney) own it now and manage to operate the easygoing inn while continuing to live in Central Jersey for much of the year. Barbara stays at the B&B full-time in summer; the rest of the sea-son it’s open only on weekends.
Guest rooms are painted in rich colors authentic to the period of the house and are filled with a blend of antiques, reproductions, bric-a-brac, wicker, and such country Victorian touches as straw hats trimmed with ribbons andlace. The striking 4-foot-by-8-foot stained-glass window on the staircase is part of the original structure.
