The Pomeroy Room, in cool white and green, is like a garden. A side table is built oftwigs, and the bed is made under a blanket of leaves. Upstairs, where Linda and Mark added warm mahogany floors, are five units. Grassmere has a striking custom-made, cast-iron canopy bed and a gas fireplace with tile surround (one off our in dining and guest rooms, in addition to two wood-burning fireplaces that suffuse the house with smells of a real fire). Next door, Somerset has a dark-wood four-poster bed and horse brasses, lending a masculine English-country air that’s softened by a birdhouse and miniature furniture hanging in a corner. The vine-twined iron canopy bed of the luxurious 650-square-foot honeymoon suite sits beneath a cathedral ceiling with exposed log beams, under a tapestry ofLake Como (the Italian one), and across from a big stone fireplace with raised hearth. Lake views can be had from the bedroom, a screened porch, or the bathroom’s soaking tub.
