Cheap Bed and Breakfast in New Jersey: Isaac Hiliard House, Pemberton

On the edge of Ft. Dix, surrounded by farmland and cranberry bogs and not too far from Philadelphia and the Pine Bar-rens, is the old town of Pemberton, where you’re considered a newcomer unless you’ve lived here for more than 30 years. The circa-1750 Isaac (pronounced I-zay-ic) Hilliard House was named for one of the town’s most-beloved citizens of 150 years ago. He added much of the home’s Victorian ornamentation.
Dan and Marian Michaels are the enthusiastic innkeepers who have adorned the house with Dan’s handmade miniatures, Marian’s plate and oil-lamp collections, an old Victrola and sewing machine, and antique baby furniture. Bedrooms contain a mix of antiques and reproductions. The former includes a courting bench perched in a bay window, while the latter encompasses repros of old-fashioned radios (and tapes ofold programs)in each room. The romantic suite has a lace-draped Rice four-poster canopy bed; two wedding gowns, one of which Marian wore when she and Dan renewed their vows for their 25th anniversary; and abig bathroom with a garden tub.
