For families (well-behaved children are always welcome), there are two suites, one of which, above a 1930s garage, has a full kitchen and green marble bath with whirlpool for two. Period needle craft lends a country flair, but the suite is still dotted with turn-of-the-century antiques.
The newest rooms include one whose marble bath has a whirlpool tub and stained glass and whose gas fireplace is rimmed by an Eastlake mantel, typical of the period wood and marble mantels surrounding the five gas fireplaces in guest rooms. But though change is con-tinual at the Normandy, four-course hot breakfasts remain a constant, enabling guests to skip lunch and spend the day at the beach, a two-minute walk away.
