This Queen Anne—style B&B strives to be a romantic fantasy getaway, a goal only slightly undercut by items for sale in the foyer. The friendly owners, John and Carol Kirby, opened the three-story inn in 1990 and furnished it with French and English Victorian antiques.
Rooms are inspired by characters and themes from history, literature, and such exotic realms as Casablanca and New Orleans. Favorites are the first-floor Queen Victoria suite, with four-poster bed, wicker sitting room, and whirlpool; romance-inspiring Victorian Rose, which boasts a carved walnut bed and Victonan fainting couch; whimsical Pussy Willow, festooned with felines; and the eclectic Teddy Roosevelt suite, which has both Roosevelt memorabilia and an array of teddy bears, not to mention a tub for two in the attached soaking room. For added romance, gas fireplaces are now found in eight units as well as the parlor.
