Services and Accommodations in Stewart Inn

The best times to visit the inn are sum-mer, when the swimming pool offers a respite from the heat, and fall, when the maple and apple trees show off their bright colors. (Unfortunately, the hum from nearby 1—78 mars the otherwise bucolic setting.) In the winter, the house is filled with plants brought in from the outside.
Inside, off-white walls bring out the rich-ness of the dark cherry and mahogany furnishings and the colorful tapestries and rugs. Many rooms have antique jam cupboards, and all have brass oil lamps on night tables beside the beds. Needlework is displayed throughout the house, and Lynne sells kits for those who are inspired. Long-term guests, often businesspeople in transit, frequently stay at the inn, taking breakfast in the cozy kitchen. Short-term visitors eat at individual tables in the dining room and enjoy such standbys as Jack’s Flaps, named for a former longtime guest who loved to cook pancakes.
5 double rooms with baths, 2 suites. Air-conditioning, cable TV and phones in rooms, fireplaces in 2 rooms and 5 common areas, badminton, on-site parking. $95—$125; full breakfast. American Express, Discover, MasterCard, Visa. Smoking on porch only, no pets, 2-night minimum on weekends May— Oct.
