Pause on the porch ofthis cheery yellow Q ueen Anne—style house with red and green trim, and you might spy a cat dozing on a wicker chair. Here on the edge of Cape May, a 10-minute walk to the Washington Mall or good beaches and a little removed from the bustle of the his-toric district, Curt and Diane DivineyRangen, both former businesspeople, have created a haven for cats and others eager to escape the rat race.
There are cats galore—not merely the requisite cat or two found in many B&Bs, but a veritable caboodle. Inside, the decorhas both a feline and floral flair, while out backis the Cat’s Garden. More than 30 cats stroll the fenced grounds, with gazebo, picnic tables, a fountain with goldfish, statuary, and hundreds of plants and herbs, including catnip, of course. About 15 make an appearance for the thrice-weekly in-season tea and tour, given for the benefit of Diane’s feral-cat foundation.
But if cats are what set this place apart from other local inns, its period antiques, hearty Norwegian-style breakfasts, and friendly innkeepers make it fit right in to the Cape May B&B scene.
