Like other Beach Haven inns, this 1880 green clapboard house with purple and yellow trim offers a romantic Victorian getaway a shell’s throw from the beach. On the second and third stories, modest antiques are tucked into cozy rooms with old wide-plank floors, flowered wallpapers, and cheery paint, but what people really come here for is the exciting cuisine of the ground-floor restaurant.
You can sit in one of the comfortable Victorian dining salons or on the lattice en closed garden side porch There your dinner choices end. Owner-chef Adolfo DeMartmo—who, along with lovely wife, Rita, hails from Italy by way of Manhat tan—plans one five-cotirse menu daily based on what’s fresh at the market (be sure to mention sny allergies or dislikes when you make your mandatory reservation). The less adventurous can take lunch or tea, though Green Gables’s scrumptious tea pastries are an adventure in themselves. On Sunday, Russian gypsy card and tea-leaf readings are available.
