Cheap Bed and Breakfast in New Jersey: The Virginia Hotel, Cape May

Though this small hotelwas built in 1879, the interior is completely modern, thanks in part to a 1997 fire. Taking the opportunity to gut large sections of the front of the hotel, management added a lighter mood to the common areas down-stairs and upgraded 10 rooms upstairs, adding bathroom phones and some whirlpool tubs and glass-enclosed show-ers. Otherwise, rooms, which vary in size, have the same decor and amenities. Their cherry and poplar furnishings are contemporary pieces with Victorian lines, designed by John Kennedy, a pop-ular furniture designer.
Offering such features as turndown service, a morning newspaper, room service, privileges at local golf clubs, and a conference room with the latest equipment, the Virginia is a full-service hotel on an intimate scale, and is superb for executive retreats and weddings. Kids are welcome, and cribs and roll-away beds are available. At the Ebbit Room Restaurant, Cape May—eclectic cuisine is served—grilled seafood and meats, unusual sauces, and rich desserts (dinner is $70 for two). You can enjoy a drink and live piano music by the lobby fireplace.
