Cheap Bed and Breakfast in New Jersey: The Wooden Rabbit, Cape May

What? A B&B in Cape May that isn’t Victorian? This 1838 Federalhouse on a quiet tree-lined street is decorated country-style, with braided rugs, quilted pillows, and the storybook characters of Beatrix Potter. Debbie Burow has been a Potter fan from the cradle, and rabbit figurines, dolls, and illustrations run rampant through her house. “One of our guests counted 40 rabbits in the dining room and living room, and there are others about the house,” Greg Burow says. “They tend to multiply.” Actually, the house is only primarily rabbit; other mammals, including several affectionate cats, calithe Wooden Rabbit home. Children of all ages, and their parents, are welcome at this playful and cozy inn.
Bedrooms have brass or wood beds, lacy curtains, and pullout sofas. The entire third floor has been turned into a two-bedroom suite. On nice days, guests take tea on the glassed-in sunporch, furnished in white wicker and cool blues. In cold weather, they can warm by the fire in either the dining or living room.
