The Parisis keep the small guest rooms clean and snug; the unpretentious decor is “early garage sale,” with some nice patchwork quilts. Steve worked on Madison Avenue before opening the lodge to skiers in 1974 (the Hickory Ski Center—Mogul Madness—is just down the way). Hearty breakfasts are pro-vided for hikers, skiers, birders, and those who wish to just sit on the river-bank and commune with nature. Good conversation abounds: The meal some-times lasts for hours.
