If you decide to pull yourself from your room or cabin (which can be difficult), you can walk down to the lake for a swim or canoe trip. A barge departs from the dock nightly for a sightseeing cruise on Lake Placid. Ifit’s winter, you can head out on one of the many nearby cross-country ski trails. There’s also a game room with puzzles, a billiards table, and an upright piano. And, if you decide to stay in your room after all, room service is available.
The restaurant serves new American cuisine, which is as good as—if not bet-ter than—many big-deal city restaurants. The innovative kitchen changes the menu seasonally; it may include grilled quail on rosemary branches with shiitake mushroom fritters or scallops with hickory-smoked mashed potatoes, grilled green onion, and oyster-spice vinaigrette. It’s here in the dining room you’ll also enjoy hearty Adirondack breakfasts, which include a cold buffet and hot entrée.
