Cheap Bed and Breakfast in New York: Mill House Inn, East Hampton

On the shadow of East Hampton’s land-mark Hook Windmill is the appropriately named Mill House Inn. This 1790 saltbox reminiscent ofNew England architecture was converted to a Dutch Colonial in 1890. In 1994 New Yorkers Katherine and Dan Hartnett gave up their careers in the city—he was a social worker, she a chef at the Pierre on Fifth Avenue—to pursue their dream of renovating and running an old B&B. “It combines our great interest in people and cooking with our desire to live in a wonderful place,” says Dan.
Lush gardens surround the house, and you get a clear view of the historic windmill across the street from the front porch; both are wonderful places to sit and enjoy a cool drink in summer.
