This 1905 farmhouse in Livingston Manor has been a boardinghouse, a hotel, and even a bowling alley. But in 1994 when Bob and Maryann Witzak, two former bankers from New Jersey, bought it from owner Dick Lanza, it be-came their dream come true. “We’ve wanted to do something like this ever since our children were young,” says Bob.
The inn sits in the heart of Sullivan County’s trout haven, and anglers fly-fish on the nearby Beaverkill and Willowmec rivers. The property consists of 10 acres, complete with a beaver pond and herb and flower gardens. Guests may breakfast in the greenhouse dining room, surrounded by native pine and a variety ofplants. A downstairs tap room has a fireplace, TV, and game machines, and pizza is served there. One room features an art deco—style bedroom set, and another has a high-back Victorian oak bed and an oak dresser (the same one ad-vertised for $5.95 from the 1905 Sears Roebuck catalog).
