The Victorian mansion now housing thisbed-and-breakfast inn was built in 1885 as a wedding gift for the daughter of one of the founding fathers oflladley, a tiny Adirondack village between the Sacandaga and Hudson rivers. “I guess that’s why it works so well for us,” says innkeeper Nancy Merlino. “We’re on an extended honeymoon here.”
Nancy and her husband and co-owner, Anthony (he’s also the chef for the inn’s restaurant), married and in 1988 found the inn. The couple is proud of the acclaimed restaurant, which serves Americanregionaland Italian cuisine. Candlelit dinners are served in the romantic, Victorian dining room with burgundy cur-tains and a fireplace, or on what is probably the onlybright-pink veranda in the Adirondacks. In back are Victorian-style gardens with two ponds and a waterfall. The guest rooms have Victorian furnishings and decor; two rooms have oak highback beds, and one has a fireplace. The Victorian Room even has a pink fainting couch, and the Garden Room has a private deck.
