Cheap Bed and Breakfast in New York: The 1770 House, East Hampton

At various times in its history the 1770 House, actually a 1740 Colonial built for one of East Hampton’s earliest families, has been a general store; a dining hall for students at the Clinton Academy next door; and, finally, an inn that had its hey-day in the 1940s and ‘50s. The late par-ents of brother and sister Wendy and Adam Perle bought the house in 1977 in a state of decline. Undaunted by the formidable task, they restored it, and today Wendy and Adam have turned it into a successful inn.
Guest rooms are furnished with fine antiques of various periods and origins. One room has a fireplace and an English-style carved canopy bed. Another has an Early American highboy. The inn’s elegant library features English-pine paneling and a fireplace. The dining room holds an extensive collection of clocks and apothecary jars.
