In the 1800s, this farmhouse with a spec-tacular view of the High Peaks was a stagecoach stop on a line that ran be-tween Lake Placid and Lake Champlain. Since then, the house has been expanded and altered; today it’s a delightful inn with horse stable. There are seven rooms in the main house and four in the newer Carriage House. In a hand-hewn log cottage a five-minute walk away, there are two additional three-room suites (individual rooms of the suites can be booked as well). Guest rooms have plain furniture, but that’s okay: There’s so much to do outside the inn, you probably won’t spend much time in your room. When you do come indoors, you can get comfortable in front of the large stone fireplaces in the sitting and dining rooms.
Owner Joe-Pete Wilson is an avid rider and has more than 50 horses available for English- and Western-style riding; polo matches are often played in the neighboring field. Joe-Pete, a former Olympic bobsledder, is also an expert skier and will lead you to cross-country ski trails that connect with the extensive Jackrabbit Trail network. Right outside the inn’s front door, these trails are also great for hiking.
