The Bird and Bottle Inn in Garrison predates the Revolutionary War and was once a way station on the old Albany— New York post road. Today it is a homey but sophisticated country inn and restaurant with a well-deserved inter-national reputation—and it’s only an hour from Manhattan. The inn’s owner, Ira Boyar, has been in the hospitality in-dustry for more than 25 years, and he applies his expertise to all aspects of the inn, from marketing to menu choices.
All the elegantly Colonial rooms have fireplaces. The Emily Warren Room of-fers a queen-size canopy bed draped in rose-color fabric. The John Warren Room boasts the original wainscoting and fireplace, and the suite has a private terrace. The cottage suite, 50 yards from the inn, appeals to couples seeking a secluded getaway. The wooded setting in-cludes Indian Creek, babbling along the back of the inn, and hiking along miles of historic roads.
