The New York State record small-mouth bass was caught in Friends Lake, but you don’t have to be an angler to enjoy the Friends Lake Inn and all it has to offer. This traditional Adirondack lodge was built in stages. The original building was a farmhouse constructed around 1850; a later addition served as a board-inghouse for workers in local tanneries. Innkeepers Greg and Sharon Taylor are avid skiers, and at the inn they have established a cross-country ski touring center with trails; they also offer special packages for alpine skiing.
After a day spent skiing(or fishing, raft-ing, canoeing, or hiking), guests gather at the inn’s restaurant, which has received culinary accolades. With its pressed-tin ceiling and original chestnut woodwork, it is a romantic spot for lingering. Guest rooms are small and cozy and are furnished with antique beds and oak dressers. The most popular rooms are the ones with a view of the lake and those with whirlpool baths.
