Guest rooms are Victorian in the romantic sense of the word—they are flow-ery and lacy. One of the nicest places to stay is the Canopy Room, with an original carved-oak mantel, hearth tiles, and a gas fireplace. In a newly constructed wing is a unique room that perfectly matches the rest of the house: The Skylight Room has a carved-oak, high-back Victorian bed covered in an antique patchwork quilt, with a skylight overhead. It’s hard to choose a room here, because so much love and attention to detail have gone into each one.
A guest entry in the Canopy Room diary probably sums up the Lamplight experience best: “Your rocking chairs, soft quilts, and warm hospitality have transformed us back into human beings.”
And isn’t that the purpose of getting away from it all?
