The original settlers of East Hampton called the village Maidstone, after their native area in England, so it’s not surprising that the Maidstone Arms has the air of a British seaside resort. Owner Coke Anne Saunders has sacrificed most of that British influence as she transformed the Maidstone into what she calls“a year-round, classic American village inn.” The Victorian inn, built in the 1830s, features porches with white-wicker furniture, blue-and-white-striped awnings, and an enclosed courtyard— the perfect spot for tea on a balmy afternoon.
Rooms are brightly decorated: Some walls are stenciled, and others have wall-paper with a flower motif. White dot-ted-Swiss curtains and lots of wicker complete the furnishings.
