In a grove of trees adjacent to a 19th-century bandstand sits the Merrill McGee House, a Greek Revival mansion built around 1840. The great-grand-father ofGrace MerrillMagee, for whom the inn is named, fought in the American Revolution. Innkeepers Florence and Ken Carrington owned housekeeping cottages on Lake George for 30 years. A brief, unhappy retirement led to a new career as proprietors of this irresistible country inn.
The house overlooks a pretty yard where weddings are often held, and a field ofwildflowers lies in back. Most of the guest rooms are located in a newer (but architecturally compatible) build-ing behind the inn. All the new rooms have fireplaces and are decorated country style, with antique beds, patchwork quilts, and folk art.
