Keeper Harry W. Buchanan’s family for five generations. The three-story white-clapboard Colonial building with green trim is a mile west of Milford, and its 600 acres surround one of the country’s first golf courses. In the main parlor you’ll find a wealth of Victorian family heir-looms, Buchanan ancestral portraits, and a stone fireplace. Guest rooms are deco-rated with family antiques and reproductions; some have porches that overlook the golf course. Three nearby cottages, ideal for families or groups, have exposed beams, large fieldstone fireplaces, and eclectic furnishings. In the winter season, guests can make full use of the 7 miles of marked cross-country ski trails. During summer months, the inn’s maple-shaded veranda is a favorite gathering place. There you can watch the golfers and the deerthat come at dusk.
