Cheap Bed and Breakfast in Pennsylvania: Evermay-on-the-Delaware, Erwinna

Thirteen miles north of New Hope is Evermay-on-the-Delaware, a romantic country hotel with a carriage house and cottage set on 25 parklike acres between the river and the canal. Here Victorian elegance is still very much in fashion.
The mansion, which is on the National Register of Historic Places, was built in 1790 and had a third floor added in 1870. From 1871 through the early 1930s, it was a popular country hotel. It was the Stover family home for many years and was opened as an inn in 1982. Current inn keepers William and Danielle Moffly purchased the inn in 1996.
In the stately double parlor you can meet for afternoon tea or for an aperitif in the evening. The fireplace is inset with Mercer tiles, and there are crystal chandeliers, tapestry rugs, a Victorian grandfather clock, and brocade camel-back settees. Breakfast is served in a conservatory off the back parlor. The bedrooms, carefully decorated with Victorian antiques and named after Bucks County notables, have wide-plank squeaky floors; some retain their original fireplaces. Carved walnut beds, massive headboards, marble-top dressers, Victorian wallpaper, and fresh fruit and flowers are everywhere. Ask for one of the six bedrooms in the main house that face the river. The carriage house may be preferable for groups traveling together. It has a two-bedroom suite with sitting room and bath on the second floor and two double rooms on the ground floor.
