Although antique clocks in the elegant rooms tick away, time stands still. The inn is furnished with Colonial and prim-itive family antiques and reproductions, and you’llfind whitewashed walls, wide-planked wavy floors, and Williamsburg colors in every room. In the keeping room there are woven woolen rugs, lots ofbooks and folk art, and settees in front of the fireplace. A spinning wheel stands in the corner. There are old family photographs and a player piano in the living room. Up the steep, narrow stairs you’ll find the guest rooms, with old pegged doors, quilts, trunks, and complimentary chocolates. On the third floor, the original numbers on the doors indicate where boys from the academy once slept.
For the multicourse breakfast, served in the dining room at a long table set with alace cloth, Dick, an excellent chef, may whip up his French toast or sour-dough pancakes. He and Jan often serve their guests in period costumes.
The Limestone Inn is quiet and homey, and it’s close to antiquing facilities. The Kennells have Amish friends nearby who have quilts for sale for less than you’d pay in commercial centers. With advance notice, they will set you up for dinner at an Amish home.
6 double rooms with baths. Airconditioning. $75—$110; full breakfast. Amercian Express, Visa. No smoking, no pets, 2-night minimum on holidays and weekends, no children.
