Cheap Bed and Breakfast in Pennsylvania: Longswamp Bed and Breakfast, Mertztown

This white clapboard Federal manor house is in a rural village about 15 minutes southwest of Allentown. Elsa and Dean Dimick restored the house, which was built in 1789, and opened it as a bedand-breakfast in 1983. When they’re not innkeeping, he’s chief of medicine at the Lehigh Valley Hospital, and she’s a professional chef. In the parlor, with its wood-pegged floors, deeply set windows, and settees before the fireplace, you can sit and enjoy the Dimicks’ vast collection of books and music. Thelarge, sunny guest rooms are decorated in a mix of Pennsylvania and Victorian antiques, with Amish quilts and one-of-a-kind an-tique iron beds. The cottage at the side, used by the Underground Railroad, is much more haphazardly decorated, with antiques and family hand-me-downs.
