Set in a secluded hamlet, Pace One makes a charming base from which to explore the nearby museums and country-side. Innkeeper Ted Pace, who comes from a family of restaurateurs, bought the four-story 1740 fieldstone barn more than a decade ago and transformed it into a country inn. You’ll find the original hand-hewn poplar beams and walls that are 2 feet thick, hungwith the work of local artists. Dormer windows make the six guest rooms cozy; they’re furnished with Shaker-style oak beds, dressers, and small writing tables, handmade by a local craftsman. Downstairs, the heart of Pace One, is an excellent restaurant and a taproom that has the feel of an authentic Colonial tavern. In a labyrinth of intimate dining areas, Ted serves what he calls “country imaginative” cooking. |
