In northern Lancaster County, nestled in rolling, wooded hills that overlook a lake, is Swiss Woods. When you enter the white brick modified Swiss chalet, Debrah Mosimann will greet you with a glass of chilled Swiss-made sparkling cider. She’s a Lancaster County native who met her husband, Werner, in Austria while working with an interdenominational mission. They built their bed-and-breakfast on 30 acres of family-owned land and opened it in 1986. Swiss Woods is bright and airy, with natural woodwork, and it’s decorated in country contemporary style. In the common room, there’s a large sandstone fireplace to curl up in front of in the bedrooms, you’ll find handmade Swiss rugs, goose-down covers, and Swiss chocolates. Two rooms have whirlpool baths, and every room has either a balcony or a patio from which you can enjoy a spectacular view. The Mosimanns keep a canoe for guests, and they’ll direct you to the best trails for hiking or biking.
