An atmosphere of romantic luxury and calm fills the Mansion Inn,just steps off bustling Main Street in New Hope. The pale yellow, 1865 Second Empire—style Victorian building, with a mansard roof and arched front door, is owned by Dr. Elio Filippo Bracco and Keith David, who opened the inn in 1995. They restored what had been a doctor’s office, adding modern baths, some with whirlpool tubs. Innkeeper Diana Smith is on hand to offer suggestions for touring, shopping, and dining, but she also respects guests’ privacy.
The two high-ceilinged sitting areas are formal yet comfortably inviting. The buttery yellow drawing room is filled with floral-print furniture, some works by local artists, and Depression glass. The smaller drawing room, done in soothing beige tones, has books and games for adults. Besides the seven rooms in the house, the inn has two in a garden cot-
tage. Each has a different color scheme, from the blue toile de Jouy print in Ashby to the rose chintz ofWindsor. All rooms have antiques, such as settees, armoires, or trunks; some have four-poster canopy beds or fireplaces. Egyptian cot-ton towels, starched and ironed sheets, and toiletries add luxurious touches, and many rooms have TVs and blow dryers. Nightly turndown includes home-baked cookies and bottled spring water. You may hear some street noise on busy weekends in rooms facing Main Street.
