Ten minutes southwest of New Hope and five minutes from Peddler’s Village is the Whitehall Inn, a white plaster-over-stone manor house, circa 1794, set on 12 rolling acres, with a huge white barn and stables at the side. It is one of the most peaceful and secluded inns in Bucks County.
Two transplanted Oklahomans, Mike and Suella Wass, are responsible for elevating the business of innkeeping to a fine art. No guest will feel neglected here; from the moment you cross the threshold, the Wasses convince you that your visit is important to them. They encourage your interest in the area, engage you in conversation, and ultimately earn your compliments. After years in their niche, the Wasses continue to stand above the rest.
Inside the house, past the sunroom, are high ceilings, Oriental rugs on wide-plank floors, and windows with deep sills. The parlor has a fireplace, a late-19th-century pedal organ, comfortable contemporary sofas with lots of Victonan lamps, and the soothing sounds of antique clocks ticking everywhere. The bedrooms (four with fireplaces) are fur-nished in a mixture oflate Victorian and American country antiques. You will find a basket of apples, a bottle of mineral water, and Crabtree and Evelyn soaps, colognes, and shampoos. The linens are imported, and in winter you sleep be-tween flannel sheets.
