Cheap Bed and Breakfast in Virginia: Ashton Country House, Staunton

Owners Dorrie and Vince DiStefano, who bought this inn in 1994, have maintained high standards for the 1860 Greek Revival home on the out skirts of Staunton. They refurnished the inn with antiques and reproductions—improving upon the structure’s 11-foot ceilings, original flooring and solid brick walls. The DiStefanos know the extras that please guests: four plump pillows on each bed, good mattresses, reading lights, oversize showers, bathroom vanities with lots of counter space, and big armoires with padded hangers.
The large master bedroom suite features a high four-poster Charleston rice bed. Guests are free to roam the surrounding 25 acres of pasture, a good way to walk off one of the inn’s full country breakfasts, which may include made-to-order omelets or homemade biscuits. Lots of books, handmade quilts, keepsakes, and the owners’ hospitality make this a very welcoming place.
