Cheap Bed and Breakfast in Virginia: Cape Charles House, Cape Charles

This 1912 Colonial-revival frame house, with its spacious wraparound front porch, is one of Cape Charles’s largest and most opulent inns. Innkeepers Carol and Bruce Evans, who renovated the inn in 1994, quickly learned how to make their guests feel pampered, from the soft classical music in the parlor to gourmet and heart-healthy breakfasts. Carol credits a fellow innkeeper with per-suading the Evanses to move from Chesapeake to join the reawakening of what she calls “this jewel of a town.”
Rooms, named after prominent people in Cape Charles’s history, are furnished with antiques, unusual collectibles, and family items, such as furniture painted by Carol’s mother. The tiniest room is named after Alexander Cassatt, former vice president of the local railroad and brother of artist Mary Cassat, whose works are featured here. The Julia Wilkins Room has a whirlpool and private balcony.
