Cheap Bed and Breakfast in Virginia: Island Manor House, Chincoteague

In this 1848 three-story, T-shape white-frame house on Main Street, Charles and Carol Kalmykow, married on site in September 1995, have created a special destination. The house is furnished in Federal style with an impressive collection of antiques. Classical music plays quietlyin the impeccable, rose-color Garden Room, a serene retreat with fire-place, big windows, and French doors opening onto a brick courtyard with roses and a fountain. The large Na-thaniel Smith Room has a sloped ceiling, a sitting area, and four dormer windows, each with a window seat. The premier room is the Mark Twain, which has a king-size bed.
Carol prepares lavish breakfasts with homemade bread each morning, and Charles, who has given up his job in western New York to focus on the inn, helps attend to maintenance and guests’ needs. For those eager to visit nearby Assateague island but avoid the $4 park admission, ask the innkeepers about passes they may have available.
