Half the guests here come to ride, half to savor the tranquillity. Every day, several equestrian groups (including beginners) leave the farm to wander over the foothills; youngsters go on pony rides. Guests can even bring their own horses; a stall is $15. Great hiking trails crisscross the property, and folks at the farm can direct guests to more trails in Shenandoah National Park or George Washington National Forest. Canoeing on the Shenandoah, caving, swimming, and golf are also nearby.
The Farmhouse Restaurant has built a considerable reputation with locally grown ingredients. Chef Julia Slye, an expert at regional American recipes, also ensures that Virginia wines and local microbrews remain staples of the menu.
