As visitors to the Bailiwick, Annette and Bob Bradley fellinlove with the inn, and when it went on the market they spontaneously bought it. They’ve given the dining room a French-American flair but retained the Bailiwick’s historic theme, befitting its location on one of the nation’s oldest roads, across the street from the courthouse where George Washing-ton’s will is filed.
Each room in the 19th-century house honors a famous Virginian in portraits, accessories, and biographies. The window treatment and red-and-gold scheme in the Thomas Jefferson room mimic the decor of his bedroom in Monticello. The sumptuous Antonia Ford suite, named for a Confederate spy, has dormer windows, a Chippendale sitting room, and a bath with whirlpool tub. All rooms have plump feather beds and goosedown pillows.
