The Holladay House, in the center of Orange, makes a good stop for anyone visiting Montpelier or driving the country roads in between. Pete Holladay (a former school administrator), wife Phebe, or inn-sitter Shirley Ramsey welcomes guests to the 1830 Federal-style home, where Pete’s great-grandmother’s crazy quilt hangs on one wall, and most of the furnishings are family pieces. According to Pete, much of the house looks just as it did when it was built despite extensive renovations.
The guest rooms are simply furnished and have modern black-and-white tiled baths. The Suite has sitting rooms and a bathroom with a vast whirlpool tub and a double-head shower. A private brick patio was recently added for each of the two ground-floor rooms, including Room 7, which has a kitchen, TV, and phone— ideal for business travelers.
