In a prime Caroline Street location, just above the Rappahannock River and across from the visitor center, is this diminutive-looking 18th-century brick row house with a third-floor dormer and a pleasant patio shaded by magnolia trees. Inside, restoration work has been top-drawer, and owner Susan Williams, married on site in September 1996, has lavished loving care on the immaculate inn.
In the common rooms downstairs, board floors are polished to a rich luster and covered with Oriental rugs. Among the traditionalantique furnishings are some Chippendale pieces. Room 5 has an imposing, queen-size, 19th-century mahogany plantation bed, and Room 2 has a dormer, a king-size brass bed, and Victorian furnishings. Two commodious suites, with hand-hewn ceiling beams, wet bars, and wall-to-wall carpeting, have private entrances opening onto the patio, where Susan’s two friendly dogs may show a passing interest in new arrivals before drifting back to sleep.
