Cheap Bed and Breakfast in West Virginia: Henderson House and, Buckhannon

As a youngster growing up in Buckhannon, Jerry Henderson was intrigued by the 1910 American Four-Square house she passed on her way to school. “There was always something going on,”she says, “people quilting on the front porch or making apple butter, or playing the dulcimer.” In 1990, when she and her husband were looking for a potential B&B, the house ofher childhood dreams was waiting for her. The six guest rooms, which share three adjoining baths, now have polished wood floors, original crystal chandeliers, brass beds, and other antiques.
A few years later, the Hendersons acquired the Queen Anne house where West Virginia’s second governor lived, not far from their first inn. They spruced up the three-story brick mansion with a wraparound veranda and filled it with period furniture, knickknacks, and a vivid color.
Jerry varies the menu at both houses, switching from bread pudding with amaretto sauce one day to a cheese soulflé or French toast stuffed with cream cheese and fresh strawberries on another.
